Dr. Yu Jiandong graduated from Beijing Normal University in 2003 and obtained his Ph.D. degree at Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Yu did postdoctoral research at Rutgers University focused on interneuron function in epilepsy. He has received postdoc fellowship from Epilepsy Foundation. Dr. Yu joined Jinan University as associate professor, focusing on in vivo reprogramming in epilepsy.
Epilepsy is a disorder characterized by abnormal increases in network excitability, synchrony, and alterations in oscillatory rhythms. And epilepsy always accompany with abundant inhibitory GABAergic interneurons death. Our major research goal is to convert astrocytes into functional GABAergic interneurons in epileptic brain.1.
